A memorial service celebrating the life of Merl F. Yingling, age 90, of Newark and formerly of Frazeysburg will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, at The Newark Church of Christ, 179 O’Bannon Avenue, Newark.
Merl passed away into the arms of His Lord on Thursday, June 7, 2018.
He was born on February 21, 1928 in Frazeysburg, Ohio to the late John Frederick and Carrie (Middlemus) Yingling.
Merl graduated from Frazeysburg High School with the class of 1946. After high school he worked for Johns Manville-Holophane for 42 years before retiring in 1989.
He was a past member of Perryton Church of Christ for 40 years where he was also a deacon, song leader of the church and youth group leader.
Merl loved to sing and visited many nursing homes and shut-ins singing and telling stories. Merl was quite a storyteller. He and his wife Marilyn moved to Newark in 2000 where they became members of Newark Church of Christ. Merl never met a stranger and always loved to work.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marilyn J. (Campbell) Yingling, whom he married on September 13, 1947; a son, Dan (Cheryl) Yingling of Frazeysburg; special daughter, Deb (Ron) Brailer of Nashport; six grandchildren, Lanson M. (Nathan) Yingling of Mesa, Arizona, Deborah (Tim) Wilson of Frazeysburg and Laura Layton of Frazeysburg, Michael (Kelly) Yingling of Raleigh N.C., Bradford Yingling of Newark and Brent (Jennifer) Yingling of Newark; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Yingling (2017); a brother, Myron Yingling; and a great-granddaughter, Madison Aubrey Yingling.
