Burial | Cremation

Funeral planning can be a difficult process while grieving the loss of a loved one. But having a funeral provides those who are grieving a place to receive support, come to terms with their loss, say goodbye, and honor their loved one’s life. Being surrounded by family and friends lets everyone share stories and memories and creates a lasting support system as everyone begins their grief journey.

Funeral Services

There are many ways to commemorate one’s life. Whether it be a service at the funeral home or a church, we encourage families to allow loved ones and friends the opportunity to offer and receive emotional support and to share memories. Often when people are in the initial stages of grief, they feel it would be easier to not have a service because, "It is not what he or she would have wanted." It is important to remember that a funeral ceremony is for the living. Our staff of professionals are here to help you make an informed decision regarding the service that is right for you and your family.

Ceremonies

We will help you develop a ceremony which helps your family and friends remember and begin to heal. At both our Newark and Heath locations we offer a choice of warm and comfortable places to come together to visit with friends and celebrate a life well lived. Whether you prefer a church service or wish to utilize one of our spacious chapels, our directors and staff will assist you with the process. By taking advantage of our audiovisual equipment, graphic design services, reception facilities and catering services, you can create an event that can be shared with distant family members and remembered for many years to come.”

Burial Services

A burial service or committal service is typically held in a cemetery following a traditional funeral service. On occasion, burial will take place before a public memorial service is held. People may choose to have a graveside service, where no prior services are held at the funeral home or church.

Burial services are often public events, but can also be a time for family to gather privately after a public service is concluded. In addition to arranging a burial service we can also assist in making arrangements for military honors, a dove release or a bagpiper.

Cremation Services

Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral and Cremation Service operates the only on-site crematory in Licking County. For you, this means even greater peace of mind. Your loved one is always in our care and our staff is involved in every step of the cremation process. We also adhere to strict identification procedures to ensure things are in order before, during and after the cremation is completed.

When choosing cremation, there are many service options available, in addition to a wide selection of merchandise and memorialization choices.

You may choose to have a traditional funeral service followed by cremation. With this option, your loved one is present for the viewing and service. An oak service casket is typically used during the visitation and service. Sometimes families prefer a memorial service where the body is not present during the service. An urn may be used instead. In addtion to the urn, a picture and other memorabilia may be used as a representation of your loved one's life.

When a memorial service is selected, there are usually fewer time constraints. While some may opt to have a memorial service immediately following the death of a loved one, others may choose to wait weeks or even months after to have a service. It really depends on the circumstances and desires of each individual family.

Also with cremation, there are various means of disposition available. The cremains can be inurned in a cemetery - either by earth burial or placement in a columbarium niche. They can also be placed in an urn and kept in the home. Cremains may be scattered on land or sea, separated and placed in smaller keepsake urns, placed in keepsake jewelry and even blown into a piece of glass artwork.

The options available with cremation are as varied and unique as the individuals being celebrated and remembered. Please be assured that our staff is here to help guide you in selecting a most fitting tribute.
