A funeral service for George F. McClain, 66, of Newark, will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta Funeral & Cremation Service, with Rev. Robert L. Knox officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mr. McClain died Thursday, June 5, at his residence. He was born Sept. 14, 1941, in Columbus, to the late Brady S. and Mary M. (Grigsby) McClain.
Mr. McClain served in the U.S. Army. His first job was with Larson Manufacturing. Over the years, he had been employed as a carpet installer, TV and heating and cooling repairman and at Heath Auto Parts. He enjoyed working on things. He was loved by all the patrons of a bingo hall that he ran and called for. He was a good cook and his family and grandchildren meant the world to him.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Martha J. (Willey) McClain; two children, Marie Waites and her fiancee, Scott Keister, of Heath, and Debbie (John) Melton, of Newark; five grandchildren, Randy Waites, of Newark, Andrew (Samantha) Waites, currently serving in Iraq with the U.S. Marines, James Waites, of Heath, and Brandy White and Nicole Melton, both of Newark; three great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Kelly McClain, of Hanover; sister, Linda Kruger, of Newark; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, April Louise; and by two brothers, Charles B. McClain and Frank E. McClain.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 6, at the funeral home, 59 North Fifth Street.
