A memorial service celebrating the life of Gary D. McAfee, age 74, of Sebring, Florida and formerly Newark, will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, August 21, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service. The Licking County Veteran Alliance will conduct military honors prior to the service.
Gary passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Advent-Health in Sebring, Florida. He was born October 10, 1945 in Cambridge, Ohio to the late Carl P. and Dorothy (Hopkins) McAfee.
Gary loved listening to all types of blues artists with his son, Gary. A few of his favorite blues musicians were B.B. King and Buddy Guy.
He was a gun aficionado and a dedicated veteran. Gary loved his country, which he proudly represented by serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era and was deployed during the Iraq War. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a devoted family man. Gary will be sadly missed by friends and family.
He is survived by his son, Gary C. (Linda) McAfee of Newark; a brother, Larry E. McAfee; and grandchildren, Christian McAfee, Breanna McAfee, Shawn Higgins, Ferrin Harvey, Courtney Wilson, De’Maris Fancher, Dawn Ford, Luana Jackson, Shawntae Jackson, Crystal English, Allison Smith, Tara English; stepchildren, Barbara Burnside, Michael English, Craig English, Deborah Harvey and Charlotte Jackson; and significant other, Gloria Garcia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cora L. McAfee (2005); two stepsons, Marcus English and Jon English; two grandsons, Paris McAfee and Stanley Ford; a sister, Charlotte McAfee-Lester; four brothers, Richard McAfee, Dale McAfee, Ralph McAfee and Kenneth McAfee.
Family and friends may call from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, August 21, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
