A funeral service celebrating the life of Joseph W. Walker., age 85, of Heath, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 23 at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 N. Fifth Street, Newark. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Walker passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Sharonbrooke Assisted Living in Newark.
He was born August 4, 1932 in Highland, Ohio to the late George and Zella (Purdin) Walker.
After graduating from high school, Joe proudly served our country in the United States Navy, earning three Occupation Service Medals. He married his late wife, Althea Walker on April 16, 1955. He was a patrolman with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. After retirement from the OSP, he worked at Rockwell and was a reserve at the Licking County Sherriff’s Office. His duty at the sheriff’s office quickly turned into a full-time position. Public safety was important to Joe. After leaving the sheriff’s office, he worked as a Zoning Inspector for Licking Township. Joe will be remembered as a hardworking man who provided for his family.
He is survived by his five children, Tamarra (Ernest) Lewis of N.C., Joseph Tyler (Kimberly Ann) Walker of Heath, Tara Minzell Walker of Heath, Russ Walker of Heath and Taylor (Adria) Walker of Pataskala; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, George (Marie Hopkins) Walker of Greenfield; a sister-in-law, Delilah Luella Aleshire of FL and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his late wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, James “Jim” Walker and a sister, Violet Stroud.
