Don R. Heaton, age 72, of Newark, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Licking Memorial Hospital.
He was born October 22, 1942 in Springfield, Ohio to the late Walter and Ruth (Howard) Heaton.
Don thoroughly enjoyed working with heavy equipment. He operated bulldozers and dump trucks for the majority of his life. He loved to watch stock car dirt track racing, even volunteering his time to help keep the Muskingum County Speedway surface smooth by performing track maintenance with his heavy equipment. Don also loved to fish in Lake Erie and retired as custodian of Madison Elementary School in Newark in 2003. Most of all he was a fantastic husband and father.
He is survived by his wife of almost fifty-four years, Loretta J (Maddux) Heaton; a daughter, Tina M. (Thomas L.) Headley of Newark; two brothers; two sisters; and very special grand-dogs, Ellie, a Beagle mix and Baylee, a Beagle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and step-father, Wendell Evans.
At the request of the family no services or calling hours will be observed. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Spring Grove Cemetery.
