Obituary
A funeral service for Wilfred Homer Jones, age 92, a life-long resident of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with the Rev. William J. Rauch officiating. Burial will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Mr. Jones passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at his home. He was born October 23, 1919 in Newark, Ohio to the late Wilfred and Helen (Homer) Jones.

Mr. Jones was a 1940 graduate of Newark High School. Prior to entering the Army, he worked as a tool and die maker for Curtis Wright. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II from 1942-46 with the Third Army, 997th Engineer Company, under General George S. Patton. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was known as one of "Patton's Boys" and "The Ohio Kid".

Mr. Jones retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas where he was employed from 1947-1980. While at Owens Corning, he had been a machinist, supervisor and a director over the apprenticeships.

Mr. Jones had his own cabinet shop and was a wood craftsman and enjoyed duplicating antique furniture. He also enjoyed Lapidary design. He was a life-long member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a member of the Owens Corning Retirees and the 25-year Club.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Connie Jones; grandsons, Troy (Serena) Jones and Jeremy (Kimberly) Jones; and great-grandchildren, Abigail, Chase, Lance and Camden Jones.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Suzanne (Cosgrave) Jones, whom he married September 27, 1947 and who passed away on September 4, 2007.

Friends may call from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, at the funeral home, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.

The Jones family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the staff of Hospice of Central Ohio and to all of their dear friends and neighbors who have been such a comfort at this difficult time.

Homer was such a sweetheart, as well as Suzanne! I worked with Homer at Owens Corning for years. At Christmas time one year he made his secretaries Christmas tree pins carved out of wood and painted in pretty colors. I still wear mine each holiday season!!!!!!!!!!!

Al & Connie.....So sorry to hear about Homer. He was a very good man, teacher, and very good and very meticulet as a machinist and at teaching us apprentices the right way . He will be missed & our Love & Prayers go out to you and your family. We are so sorry that we cannot attend the calling hours or the funeral, my brother-in-law passed away the same day....we will be in worthington Tues. & Wed.
