Obituary
A service of remembrance for Glenn William "Mac" McDonald, age 90, of Newark, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, at Central Christian Church, 587 Mt. Vernon Rd., Newark, with Rev. Dr. Rick Rintamaa officiating. Burial will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Mr. McDonald passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Inn at SharonBrooke. The second of five sons, he was born February 14, 1920 to Mertie (Parker) and Guy McDonald on their homestead near Fallsburg. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to a farm on 30th Street in Heath. A 1937 graduate of Newark High School, he worked on the farm in his youth, until he left for the military during World War II. Mr. McDonald served as a machinist in the United States Army Air Corps, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After returning to civilian life, he married Ellen L. Lamb of Newark. He worked as a machinist at Bowman Auto Parts for forty-eight years before retiring in 1995. Mr. McDonald was also employed by the Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation as a machinist at its Case Street plant, from 1975 -1985.

Throughout his life, Mr. McDonald was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing in the local area, and, in recent decades, an annual trout-fishing trip to North Carolina with friends from work. Following retirement, Glenn and Ellen enjoyed several trips together. Family and friends relished the bounty of vegetables he brought forth each summer and fall from his gardens. Most of all, he seemed to enjoy solving the problem of how to make a broken thing, usually an auto, truck, or tractor engine, work.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Ellen L. (Lamb) McDonald; two sons, Roger (Emily Granrud) of Brooklyn, New York, and Randy (Roberta) of Newark; four grandchildren, Frederick, Monica, Stephen, and Meredith; sisters-in-law, Jean McDonald and Charlotte Jones (Ellen's sister); and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold (Ruth), Forrest (Virginia), Robert (Eva) and James.

Family and friends are welcome to call at the church, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. preceding the service.

The family is most grateful to the SharonBrooke and Hospice staff for the care and comfort provided to Glenn.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, PO Box 430, Newark, OH 43058-0430.

The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. His life was remarkable -- not so much due to its longevity, but that it was filled with family, friends, good hard work and a bit of recreation too. Well balanced and well lived.
